Late Night Snack

I went in to give BigZabba one last kiss when I went to bed tonight and she was awake! So, wanting to win the Greatest Mom Ever award, I let her get up and have ice cream! She thinks I am pretty awesome. She is standing beside me licking the bowl even as I type.

Yeah, I rock.

Ringing Endorsement

Today we had lunch with one of BigZabba's friends, whom we will call Lily. We ate at Johnny Rockets. The kids all ordered chicken tenders. Lily then told her Mom,

"These chicken tenders are from heaven."

They should hire her to do their advertising.

Pappy Update

Pappy is being moved from the hospital to his home. He was not very happy about being in the hospital for so long, so he is finally getting to go home. He is still somewhat unstable, but the hospital wasn't doing anything for him that cannot be done at home. The doctors have said that they are surprised that he is still living. They said "He should have died 20 years ago. His kidney function should have killed him 4 years ago.." They just don't know when his time will be...it could be weeks it could be today. Please continue to pray for my Mom and grandmother as they prepare for his passing. Please also pray for Pappy..that he would be comfortable, free of pain and that he would be at peace.

Budding Artist

BigZabba is becoming quite the artist. During her "quiet time" the other day she drew this picture of her and I.

She said,

The other person is Daddy. Do you wonder why he doesn't have any eyes?

Yes, why doesn't he have eyes?

Because he is walking the other way.

Someday you will be able to say, I knew her when...

Product Placement

Whoever thought to place these two products together at the grocery store was pretty smart...

The Concert

Sit back and relax. Here is a small sample of Pappy playing the harmonica.

Enjoy!

Ebay item

This is just too funny. When you have a few minutes you should read her listing.

Here is her blog, it is just as funny.

Do your teeth rest?

I don't normally frequent Starbucks, especially with two kids nipping at my heels, but today we stopped in for a small treat while we were getting the car washed. I have always thought that the people who sit in Starbucks look so relaxed drinking their iced-mocha whatevers, typing away on their laptops. Today I wanted to join them in their relaxation but I just couldn't. See the man sitting one table away from us was sitting at his table drinking his Venti something or other...but the thing is, he had a plastic Starbucks cup filled with water on the table....it had his teeth in it. Nothing says relaxation like letting your teeth have a rest.

Pappy Update

He continues to decline. Please pray for him, my Grandmother and my Mom. He is back in the hospital with a variety of symptoms. I believe that he is ready to meet Jesus, it is just a matter of time before his body lets him. He is at peace with "going home". It is a hard time for my Mom so please remember her in your prayers. It has to be difficult to see your father in this state, to be strong for your Mother who is losing her spouse and yet be a grieving daughter. She is tired and weary. We love Pappy and will be sad to be without him, but we will rejoice in knowing that he will no longer have pain and he will have enough "wind" to play the harmonica loud and strong once again. Thank you for your prayers.

Update - BigZabba's prayer tonight was very sweet and showed great understanding:

Jesus Food,

Thank you for my fun day I had tonight. Pray for ShaSha, Mommom and Pappy to feel better soon and please help Pappy not to die but we know that you control everything and we don't. So you should do what you want.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

My Pappy

My grandfather, Pappy, is in poor health. It makes me sad to think that these are his last months with us. He is such a wonderful man. I have so many memories of him; his silly laugh, watching Bugs Bunny cartoons with him, him playing the harmonica, using a tape player to record random conversations with us, eating hoagies, and his prayers. My Pappy can pray the heavens down.

Pappy met my grandmother on a blind date, 18 months later they eloped and they have been married for 68 years. He came home from World War 2 with 5 battle stars and some shrapnel in his leg. He lives on the same property that he lived on as a young boy.

At 92 years old he still enjoys a good Bugs Bunny show, he loves to sit on the porch and have a "powerful" cup of coffee, and his prayers are more sincere then ever. Just today he prayed that he and his family would be able to enjoy the time they have left together.

I love you Pappy!

The Empty Heart

Shortly after BigZabba went to bed I went back in to check on her. She was still awake...

"I just wanted to come say good night one more time."

Why Mommy? Did your heart feel empty?

How does she come up with this stuff!?

Pet for a Day - Update

BigZabba thought that the pigeon might be a Mommy and it was looking for a place to lay her eggs. Well after the pigeon died she said, "I guess she wasn't a Mommy after all. She must have been a grandma."

Quote of the Day

While listening to "This Little Light of Mine" BigZabba says,

"It should say 'This big light of mine' Mommy"

Why? I ask

"Because God's word is big, not little and the light is God's word."

Conversion

My PC husband has just bought a Mac. I never thought I would see the day.

"Buying a Mac is like going to a nice hotel," said with a silly little grin on his face.

Pet for a Day

Yesterday we came home to a pigeon in our yard. We often have a colony of crows in our yard, but never a pigeon. It seemed like it wanted to stay. It walked around the yard, sat near the back door, followed us around the yard...it seemed like it was tame. BigZabba and DaddyZabba felt inclined to feed it, so they set out a trail of crackers leading to a bucket of water for our new "pet". At bedtime BigZabba said goodbye to the bird thinking it would be gone in the morning. Well, sure enough it was still here this morning. We set out some more food and left for our errands. Sadly when we returned we found that Mr. Pigeon had died while sitting at our back door. Hopefully his last day was a pleasant one. He died with a belly full of crackers and corn tortilla. We will miss you Mr. Pigeon.

Not So Much Like the Picture

Tonight I made the same meal I wrote about earlier. It didn't work out so well. I did the same thing, it just decided to burn this time. We ended up going to our neighbor's for dinner since this was completely inedible.

For those that wanted to recipe, here it is. Hopefully you will have better luck!

Ingredients -
4 portion chicken breasts
1/4 cup teriyaki marinade
4 portion size potatoes
1 lb. snow peas, trimmed
1 tsp. powdered wasabi
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
1/4 cup skim milk
1/4 cup fat free sour cream

Directions -
Marinate chicken for at least 30 minutes. Place peeled potatoes in a large sauce pan and cover with water. Boil, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Remove chicken from marinade, place in a broiler pan. Broil 6 inches from heat source for about 15 minutes. Steam snowpeas for about 3 minutes. Drain and mash potatoes with wasabi and black pepper. Add skim milk and sour cream, continue to mash until light and fluffy. Serve and enjoy!

In the Car

On the way home from church tonight...

LittleZabba - Mama
Me- yes
LZ - Mama
Me - What do you need?
LZ - Mama, Mama, Mama
Me - What do you want?
LZ - Mama, MaaaMaaa, Mama, MAAAAAAMAAAAAA (repeat this about 50 times)

once she realized I wasn't answering anymore she moved on to BigZabba

LZ - (BigZabba's name)
BigZabba - yes
LZ - BigZabba's name, BigZabba's name, BigZabba's name, BigZabba's name, BigZabba's name
BZ - What?
LZ - BigZabba's name, BigZabba's name, BigZabba's name, BigZabba's name, BigZabba's name

then she moved on,

LZ - Mama, Dada (who wasn't even in the car), Mama, BigZabba, Dada, Dada, Mama, Dada, BigZabba. (this continued in a very sing songy voice the entire way home)

Then I realized she wasn't really talking to us, she just likes hearing her own voice. It quickly went from super annoying to really funny.
