This is the Run That Never Ends

Sing with me...

"This is the run that never ends...It just goes on and on my friends. We just started running cuz' we didn't know what to do and now we're out here sweating until the day is through. This is the run that never ends...It just goes on and on my friends..."

10 miles - 2 hours 12 minutes

woo-hoo!

Dr. De Soto

So the dentist didn't really go as planned, but it all worked out. BigZabba was all excited about going to the dentist, she was ready to be a big girl. We got in the room, and I think the dentist rushed things a bit too much and my "big girl" suddenly melted into a puddle. She didn't want to sit in the chair, didn't want to wear the paper bib, really didn't want to look at the dentist and kept saying over and over again, "I really don't want to do anything!" So, sobbing, because she thought she wouldn't be able to turn 4, she got down and sat with LittleZabba while I got my teeth cleaned.
Once I was done she decided that she was ready to try again. She sat on my lap, bravely opened her mouth for the dentist, and did her best to not squirm while he brushed her teeth. (I would be interested to know what the dentist will charge the insurance company for her visit...45 seconds of looking in her mouth followed by 1 minute of brushing/polishing..maybe I am in the wrong business.)
Now thinking about her meltdown I wonder if her fear came from one of her favorite books, Dr. De Soto...a mouse dentist who pulls the tooth of a fox, using "tooth grabbers". She did make a comment about the tooth brush having a tooth grabber on the end..hmm..maybe that is what it was all about.
At least we got this first visit out of the way and hopefully the next will be a piece of cake!

The Zabbas are Growing Up!

Today is a big day in the life of my Zabbas.

This morning LittleZabba rolled over! She wasn't as excited as I was, but she did look surprised to be looking at the world from a different angle.

This afternoon BigZabba will be going to the dentist for the first time. She is super excited, because after the dentist she will be allowed to turn 4! (I told her that the dentist wouldn't let her turn 4 until she got her teeth checked. So she decided that she could be a big girl and let him look at her teeth..only so she could turn 4..who wants to be 3 forever?)

"Freelancer to Base Camp"

These last few days have been so great.

Yesterday I went with a friend to the set of Alias! I am such a fan of that show!! Being on the set was just such a blast. I was able to meet & shake hands with, Jennifer Garner, Ron Rifkin & Victor Garber. I even saw Michael Vartan on his bike. I know it is silly, but it was fun to see them in person. It was a lot of fun. I was quite star struck so I tried to play it cool and not act too much like a crazed fan.

Today I went to the LA Textile show. I was able to get some more of our current fabrics, as well as some new fabric to start a new line of AllyZabba blankets. It worked out really well because DaddyZabba was able to come with me. He helped take care of the Zabbas and help me make fabric choices.

The Zabbas are in bed, my orders have been shipped & I sit here eating a chocolate muffin. Life is good.

A Little Vacation

On Thursday I got a phone call from my Mom, ShaSha. She asked if she could take BigZabba home with her for a few days. Sure! BigZabba was super excited, even more so because her cousin was going to be there too. It was going to be her first real sleep over! So, after nap time BigZabba left with Papa & ShaSha for her vacation to ShaSha's house. From what I hear they had a super time. There was lots of playing at the park, watching the trains, running..it was a little kid's dream! It is wonderful that my parents are close enough so that they can have these wonderful memory making weekends with the kids. It felt a little strange to only have one child with me for a few days. Life felt so easy. Thanks Mom for the little vacation..not just for BigZabba but me too!

The Good Things

Our lives at times feel empty and unfulfilling.

We do not see the many blessings that God has laid out in front of us.

Many times all the good things God has for us are right there, all we have to do is reach out and take what he has so freely given to us. It is so easy.

We can just keep reaching out, taking the blessings, love, goodness & salvation that He is so happy to give us. Then our lives become so full and rich.

Have a wonderful Easter, and take time to see all the good things God wants to give you.

Still House-bound

Well BigZabba's little fever has turned into the fever that wont go away. We are on day two of being chained to the house. My dilemma all day has been..does a temperature of 99.5 degrees really mean a fever? That is less that one degree above normal. We can go play, right?! But, my protective Mommy side comes out and wins everytime.
This all began on Tuesday early evening. by 3am Wednesday morning I knew she was sick. She was whiney, really hot and "really really didn't want to be alone". So, I relented and told her that I would lay with her for a little bit. She then told me that her stomach hurt. Uh-oh. Get the trash can. BigZabba calls throwing up, "spitting". That call came about because we were at a park once (about one year ago so I am shocked she remembers) and we saw a little boy throwing up. She asked what he was doing and I just said, spitting. Thus the name was born. Anyway, about 10 minutes after laying with her, she very calmly said, "Mommy, I think I am ready to spit now." Oh ok. So I got the trash can, and without any fuss or crying or whining, she spit...well tried to anyway. "Ok, I am done now Mommy." That was that. That was the calmest "spitting" session we have ever had in this house! She certainly did not get her Daddy's barfing genes...she is much calmer and 100 times quieter! Anyway, we are now at Thursday early evening and we still have a fever, but thankfully no more spitting. I hope that this goes away soon. I have errands to run and I am getting cabin fever!

Life's Little Twists

There have been many things today that haven't gone as planned.

  • After a 45 minute drive and $6 to park, the doctor wouldn't see my because my insurance card didn't have the right info on it
  • Construction slowed my very short 3 mile drive to see a friend's new baby
  • BigZabba's slight fever caused our dinner guests to leave before dinner and caused tomorrow's breakfast plans to get rescheduled
  • The biggest bummer was finding out that the Nike Women's Marathon is sold out - the Tiffany necklace will have to wait
Yet another reminder that I am not in control.

I'm a Winner!

NRCC Chairman Tom Reynolds, from the Business Advisory Council sent me my National Leadership Award today, along with the picture of our great President. He wants "to personally thank me for agreeing to serve as an Honorary Chairmas of the NRCC's Business Advisory Council from California." According to the Press Release they sent to me (but did they send it to any "press", probably not) I was appointed to the council for my valuable contributions and dedication to the Republican party. I have "long supported Republican ideals, particularly debt reducation and tax reform, and I will be a key member of the Council. Councilman Reynolds concluded his letter by saying, "Thank you for your support. I look forward to working with you on the council." Well, I look forward to working with you too Councilman Reynolds. I will get right to work on that Confidential Chairman's Survey that was included in my packet...as soon as I hang my certificate and picture of President Bush in a prominent place in my home.

Questions from BigZabba

"Mommy, are we going to die?"
"Someday we will."
"When will we die?"
"Well, I don't know. That is up to God to decide."
"Maybe when we are 4."
"Or maybe when we are 80. We never know."
"Mommy, I think God has to think about that."

I Find it Sickening!

Once again I am reminded that I married a genius...or a madman, however you wish to look at it. Here is the scenario...

me: i have been having trouble lately sewing the blankets. i can't seem to get them to line up evenly. the fabric moves around so much as i sew.
him: [click, clack, click, clack of the computer keyboard] this one lady on this board found that sewing with tissue paper seems to help.
me: well i think i will try once more and see how it goes.

off i go to sew...while i am pinning, he comes in.

him: i read another lady say that you had to make sure the pressure foot tension wasn't too much. can you adjust that?
me: (speaking with authority because i know about my machine) no, you can adjust the thread tension, but i can't adjust the pressure foot.
him: do you mind if i read the manual about it.
me: sure go ahead..(thinking, he won't find anything in there about it. he thinks he knows everything.)
him: oh here it is, this knob adjusts the pressure foot tension. maybe turn it down and see if that helps.
me: (stunned) oh, ok. sure, i'll try.

off i go to pin and sew.

it worked. the fabric didn't move around, it was much better. how does he do that? it is sick!

AllyZabba is Award Winning!

I have received the 2006 National Leadership Award from the National Republican Congressional Committee. Not only that, but I have been invited to he Honorary Chairperson for the NRCC's Business Advisory Council. Doesn't that sound impressive!? In addition to this prestigious honor, I will have my name in a full page ad in the Wall Street Journal listing me as a member of the council. They will send me a copy of the ad that I can frame for my office, along side the picture of our great President which they will send to me as well. I will be invited to several invitation only dinners with the President and Vice-President, and I will be a key participant in surveys that will effect tax decisions in the future.

If I wanted to support to the council even further they gave me the opportunity to donate $500. In return I would have gotten this lovely gavel, and the NRCC's Daily Planner complete with a salute to the republican presidents.

With this new notch in my belt I would from now on like to be referred to as The National Republican Congressional Committee's 2006 National Leadership Award Winner & Honorary Chairman of the Business Advisory Council, or NRCCNLAWHCBAC for short. Too bad they only wanted my money..this would have been something fun to boast about!

Questions

Do I really think that I can finish a half-marathon? Am I just kidding myself?
Why isn't the left over baby weight coming off?
Will I ever get back into my pre-pregnancy pants?
At what point do I just accept this new body shape/size and buy new pants?
Will all the laundry ever be done?
Is God trying to teach me something? Am I just not listening?
Why does BigZabba always ask "Why"?
Why am I so sensitive lately?
What is this that I am feeling? frustration? anxiety? stress?
How many gallons of milk have I bought in my life?
Am I doing too much? Should I take a break from something? What?
Why are the oranges so good lately, and the grapefruits so bad?
